At Montrose Community Trust, we’ve never shied away from the detail. While the headlines might capture imaginations it’s the careful, methodical work behind the scenes that truly builds something lasting. Right now, that’s exactly what’s happening at the Gable End Project.
Digging Deep
Over the past few weeks, our team has been focused on ground investigations. This stage might not come with ribbon cuttings or photo opportunities, but it is one of the most important steps in the journey.
From studying the water table to testing soil stability and assessing how the foundations will behave under load, these investigations are about one thing: certainty. Certainty that when we break ground, we do so knowing the site is ready, safe, and capable of supporting a facility that will stand the test of time.
In short, we’re making sure that everything is as solid as it can be and, yes, that means starting on the right footing.
Waiting With Bated Breath
Alongside these investigations, our building warrant application is currently with the authorities. It’s a detailed process, but one that ensures every aspect of the design meets the highest standards of safety and compliance.
We expect to hear back around November, and while we wait with bated breath, we’re preparing for what comes next.
Looking Ahead
Once the warrant is secured, the project will go out to tender. Contractors will be invited to bring their expertise to the table, helping us transform vision into brick and mortar reality.
And then? Well, anyone who’s lived through a Scottish winter will know why we’re aiming to break ground in the early months of next year. With fair weather on our side, the construction can begin in earnest and the Gable End will start to rise.
Why These Steps Matter
It’s tempting to see this phase as “boring” or bureaucratic, but in truth, it’s vital. By doing the hard work now – drilling, testing, checking, double-checking – we’re ensuring the facility we build isn’t just fit for purpose, but fit for decades of community use.
Our goal has always been to create more than a building. We’re creating a place where people can come together for health, wellbeing, education, and support. To do that properly, every detail matters – right down to the foundations.
So while the diggers aren’t rolling in just yet, rest assured: progress is happening. Quietly, carefully, and with purpose.
