With the new year underway, we wanted to share a clear and honest update on where the Gable End Project stands – what’s happening now, what’s coming next, and how we’re making sure this landmark development is delivered properly, responsibly, and in the best interests of the community.
Awaiting Our Building Warrant
First and foremost, we’re awaiting the imminent approval of our building warrant. This is a critical milestone and one that unlocks the next stages of the project. All indications are positive, and once it comes through, we’ll be in a strong position to move forward with confidence.
Working Closely with Montrose FC
As you’d expect, we’re working closely with Montrose FC to determine practical working arrangements during construction. A key priority is ensuring as little disruption as possible to matches, the playing season, and the wider club operations.
This is about partnership, communication and planning, making sure football continues to thrive at Links Park while the Gable End is transformed alongside it.
A Realistic Route to Spring Construction
We’re currently developing a realistic, deliverable timeline that points towards starting construction in the spring, avoiding the challenges of a Scottish winter and giving the project the best possible conditions to succeed.
This isn’t about rushing. It’s about sequencing things properly so that when work begins, it can progress smoothly and safely.
A Phased and Sustainable Approach
Alongside this, we’re finalising a phased approach to construction. This allows us to:
- Minimise disruption on site
- Align build stages with our funding pipeline
- Match resources to delivery in a controlled and responsible way
Phasing gives us flexibility, resilience and financial prudence. These are all essential for a project of this scale and importance.
Strengthening Oversight and Independence
To further strengthen governance and quality assurance, we’re commissioning independent Quantity Surveyor (QS) support. This QS will work alongside our architects at Crawford Architecture, providing independent oversight, challenge and cost control.
This additional layer ensures autonomy, transparency and value for money, with decisions always rooted in what’s best for the community and the long-term success of the facility.
Doing the Hard Work Now
None of this is flashy. There are no cranes on site just yet. But this is the graft that makes the difference.
By putting the preparation, planning and scrutiny in now, we’re laying the foundations for a project that’s not just built…but built right. One that stands the test of time, serves the community properly, and delivers on the ambition that sits behind the Gable End vision.
