As the Gable End Project continues to gather pace, we’re pleased to share an update on the
progress being made behind the scenes…not just on plans and preparation, but in securing the
investment needed to bring this vision to life.
Because while the build itself is still to come, the foundations are already being laid in another
crucial area: funding.
£40,000 Boost from Rocco Charitable Trust
We’re delighted to have secured £40,000 from the Rocco Charitable Trust in support of the
Gable End Development.
This is a significant contribution towards creating a purpose-built community hub that will allow
us to expand our work across health, wellbeing, employability, education and inclusion.
It’s also a strong vote of confidence in both the project and the impact Montrose Community
Trust continues to deliver. This funding came from an approach from Robbo Charitable Trust,
showing that our reputation and ambition are being noticed. This goes to reinforce that what
we’re building isn’t just needed locally, but recognised more widely as something worth backing.
Strengthening Access with GoFibre
Alongside this, we’ve entered into a £5,000 Access Partnership with GoFibre, helping ensure
that the Gable End is not only a space for opportunity, but one that is truly accessible and
connected.
Partnerships like this play an important role in shaping the detail of the project, supporting
sensory infrastructure, accessibility, and the practical elements that make a facility welcoming
and usable for all.
It’s another example of how local and regional businesses are stepping forward to be part of
something that will benefit the whole community.
A Major Step Forward: £750,000 Application to the SFA
Looking ahead, we’ve submitted a £750,000 application to the Scottish FA’s Pitching-In
Fund…a major milestone in the project’s journey.
This level of investment would be transformational. It would secure phases one and two of the
build (out of four total phases), while ensuring that the Gable End fully delivers on its potential
as a hub for grassroots football, participation and community engagement.
The application reflects months of work (aligning the project with national priorities around
participation, inclusion, and community sport) and positions the Gable End as a flagship
example of what football-led community development can achieve.
A Strategic Approach to Funding
What’s important to us is not just how much we raise, but how we raise it.
Our approach to funding the Gable End is strategic and layered, bringing together charitable
trusts, corporate partners, national governing bodies, and community fundraising. This ensures
that:
● The project is not reliant on a single source of funding
● Investment is aligned to different elements of the build and delivery
● We create a sustainable and resilient model for the future
It also reflects the nature of the project itself…collaborative, community-driven, and built on
partnership.
Looking Ahead
There is still more to do. More conversations to have. More applications to submit. More support
to secure.
But the momentum is clear.
Each successful grant, each new partnership, each application submitted brings us one step
closer to transforming the Gable End into a space that will serve Montrose for generations to
come.
